⭐ What Is DeSu7 About?
The story revolves around Devaditya Roy, played by Dev, a former police officer who gets pulled into an undercover mission connected to crime, politics and threats along the border.
During the mission, Devaditya unexpectedly comes face-to-face with his former love, Dr. Subhasmita Chowdhury, played by Subhashree Ganguly.
But things have changed.
Subhasmita is now married, and Devaditya’s professional mission becomes increasingly complicated by his unresolved feelings from the past.
Meanwhile, Anirban Bhattacharya plays dual roles, bringing another layer of danger and unpredictability to the story.
The film therefore tries to balance three major elements—national duty, personal love and revenge.
❤️ Dev & Subhashree Chemistry
One of the biggest attractions of DeSu7 is undoubtedly the chemistry between Dev and Subhashree.
The pair returns to the screen together after a long gap, and their familiar chemistry provides some of the film’s most enjoyable moments.
Their romantic scenes, old memories and nostalgic references are clearly designed for fans who have followed their journey together.
The chemistry works particularly well when the film slows down and allows the two actors to simply interact rather than relying heavily on action or dramatic dialogue.
Indian Express also praised the reunion, Dev’s direction and the performances of the lead cast, giving the movie a 3.5/5 rating.
🔥 Anirban Bhattacharya Steals the Show
If there is one performer who consistently grabs attention in DeSu7, it is Anirban Bhattacharya.
Playing contrasting characters, Anirban brings unpredictability and intensity to the film.
His screen presence becomes particularly noticeable whenever the story starts losing momentum. His performance adds tension to the criminal and political portions of the narrative.
Several reviews have highlighted Anirban as one of the strongest aspects of the movie. Times of India, for example, described him as the film’s standout performer despite its screenplay problems.
💥 How Is the Action?
DeSu7 is designed as a commercial Bengali action entertainer.
The movie features gunfights, crime, political conflict, revenge, undercover missions and high-energy confrontations.
Dev looks comfortable in the action-hero role, and his physical screen presence suits the character.
However, the action is not always enough to overcome the weaknesses in the screenplay. Some sequences feel familiar, while the story occasionally relies more on spectacle than emotional development.
🎵 Music & Romance
The romantic side of the movie works mainly because of Dev and Subhashree’s chemistry.
The songs add warmth to their relationship and provide a break from the heavier action and crime elements.
For fans of the pair, the musical nostalgia will probably be one of the more enjoyable parts of the film.
However, the background score can sometimes feel heavier than necessary, particularly during scenes that might have benefited from a more restrained approach.
🎥 Dev as a Director
DeSu7 is Dev’s first film as a director, making it an important project in his career.
As a first-time director, Dev clearly has a strong understanding of commercial cinema. He knows how to present action, romance and star power in a way that can connect with a mainstream audience.
The casting is another positive aspect.
However, the film tries to handle too many things at once—romance, patriotism, crime, politics, revenge and nostalgia. Because of this, the screenplay occasionally loses focus.
Telegraph India also pointed out that the film’s ambitious mix of action, romance and political elements is not always supported by a strong enough story.
📝 Screenplay: The Biggest Weakness
The basic premise of DeSu7 is promising.
A former officer, a dangerous border region, criminal networks, political power struggles and an unfinished love story could have created a gripping thriller.
Unfortunately, the screenplay does not always develop these elements with enough depth.
Some character motivations feel convenient, while certain developments happen too quickly. The movie also uses several nostalgic references to Dev and Subhashree’s earlier films.
For devoted fans, these moments may be fun.
For viewers expecting a fresh and tightly written thriller, however, they may feel repetitive.
🎭 Performances
Dev
Dev is convincing in the action portions and carries the film with his screen presence.
His character is built around determination, duty and unresolved love, and he handles the commercial-action side of the role comfortably.
However, stronger character development could have made Devaditya a more memorable protagonist.
Subhashree Ganguly
Subhashree brings warmth and emotional sincerity to the romantic portions.
Her chemistry with Dev remains one of the film’s strongest elements.
However, her character could have been given more agency and depth within the main storyline.
Anirban Bhattacharya
Anirban is arguably the film’s biggest acting highlight.
His dual-role performance gives the movie an additional layer of tension, and he brings different shades to the contrasting characters.
Whenever the screenplay slows down, Anirban’s performance often helps bring the energy back.
Supporting Cast
Rajatava Dutta, Aparajita Adhya, Kanchan Mullick and the other supporting performers add colour and local flavour to the film.
Their presence helps make the world of DeSu7 feel larger than just the central love story and action plot.

🎬 Is DeSu7 Worth Watching?
If you are a Dev or Subhashree fan, DeSu7 is definitely worth considering for the theatrical experience.
Their reunion provides plenty of nostalgia, while Anirban Bhattacharya gives the movie an additional reason to watch.
If you prefer tightly written thrillers with realistic action and deeply developed characters, you may find some shortcomings.
Overall, DeSu7 works better as a commercial Bengali entertainer than as a perfectly structured thriller.
🔥 Final Verdict
DeSu7 brings together action, romance, crime, politics and nostalgia in one ambitious package.
Its biggest strengths are Dev and Subhashree’s chemistry, Anirban Bhattacharya’s performance and the film’s commercial energy.
Its biggest weakness is the screenplay, which sometimes struggles to balance all of its ideas.
As Dev’s first directorial venture, the film shows ambition and a clear understanding of mainstream Bengali entertainment, even if the execution is not consistently strong.
Final Verdict: A nostalgic Dev–Subhashree reunion with plenty of action and romance, elevated by Anirban Bhattacharya but held back by an uneven screenplay.
